A Case of Acrosclerosis

Abstract
Author reported a case of acrosclerosis, 48 years old, male, Lee S,P., who had visited to. our out-clinic at June 14, 1961, complaining the intermittent pain and slight itching on both, dorsum pedis.
This patient was suffered from edema, erythema, numbness and pain from 20 years ago, when exposed on the hot weather. These symptoms were aggravated from 3 years ago, appearing the thickened, hard skin and deformed nail.
He had not any visceral manifestation, especially dysphagia.
On physical examination, his dorsum pedis was thick, sclerotic and purplish in surface,. well defined in its border, and friable and deformed in nail.
Histopathologically, epidermis was slightly hyperkeratotic. In upper dermis, fibroblasts were infiltrated, running with collagen fiber, and elastic fiber increased.
In lower dermis, collagen fiber bundles were hypertrophic, sclerotic and closely packed, showing hyaline degeneration. Skin appendages, particularly sweat glands were disappeared in part, and markedly atrophic in the remained glands.
In conclusion, this case showed the acral cutaneous sclerosis and sclerodactylia on both dorsum pedis, accompanying an intermittent vasospastic symptom. Histopathological findings were compatible with acrosclerosis.
